How the Tortoise broke his shell- During severe famine in the animal kingdom, the wise tortoise kept his mother safely on the baobab tree. Always seen with other animals, benefitting from them especially his bossom friend the hare, the wise tortise was thriving and increasing in weight in spite of hard times. He ate at night at his mother's on the baobab tree. When challenged and pressurized on how he got fat and comfortable while other anmals were famished the toroise opted to reveal the secret of his relative opulence. The tortoise connected a strong twine to the stool of his mother on the baobab tree but warned his old mother to cut and sever the twine on hearing the voice of her son admonishIng her as he (tortoise) climbed the twine to visit her for dinner. The stage was set. All animals sharing the secret climbed the twine on their way to baobab climax to feast "chez Mama Tortoise"-the animals included the hare, the antelope, the zebra, the goat. Toroise was last behind others. When the tortoise shouted(Cut), the twine severed. Allthe animals fell on the Tortoise. His shell broke into pieces without disintegrating. The tragedy was concealed to Tortoise's mother. The broken shell became genetic. Offsprings of the Tortoise have been born with shattered but integral shell.
